Casio Oceanus OCW-M700 Series

Posted by wristwatch on July 9, 2007

Oceanus is the first watch to offer 5 motor technology combined with Atomic Solar technology. Each motor controls a movement on the watch face (second hand, chronograph, world time, and 24 hour time). The new fifth motor replaces the function of the LCD screen found in our first generation models with a classic date display. The new OCWM700 series are the first Oceanus to include Multi-Band 5 Atomic Timekeeping which can receive the Atomic signal in the US, UK, Germany and Japan. These new models also feature a Tide Indicator and come in Titanium or Black IP bands.

I’ve noticed that at some of the online japanese stores that have the The OCW-M700TDJ-1AJF and display their own photos of it, it differs from the Casio images, the clock handles in the Casio images are thick:

    webshop: http://www.rakuten.co.jp/santnore/414353/773793/905860/#1109094

    but look at these images:

    Are these pirate copies?

hi there joakim. i really do think casio OCW-M700 is the best watch ever! i have a casio gw a1000 for my everyday watch.i really do want to own a m700 but i find it hard to seek for a seller. do you know any authentic seller online?

Are you talking about the hour and minute hands? It just seems as the other photos weren’t taken in a good light. The hour and minute hands seems slimmer than what they actually are.

  3. Joakim Bengtsson said

Yes that is what I meant to say.

  4. wristwatch said

Ah, in that case, I don’t think the OCW-M700TDJ-1AJF in the photos are pirate copies. It’s just a trick of light and weird angles.

  5. Oceanus said

Does anyone know why the OCW-M7000J costs almost $200 more than the OCW-M700TDJ? I’m assuming there has to be something more than just a different color to justify such a higher price. Thanks for the help.

  6. wristwatch said

Oops, it seems I made a typo. The OCW-M7000J-1AJF is titanium with ti carbide coating, while the OCW-M700TDJ-1AJF is just plain stainless steel.

  7. Oceanus said

Hmm, I’m almost certain that all the Oceanus’s are titanium (that’s what the “T” in “TDJ” or “TBJ” stands for). However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the M7000J had some sort of stronger coating. Also, I think I read somewhere that the M7000J has a spherical sapphire face whereas the M700 does not.

I’ll check this again and get back to you shortly.

I believe “Oceanus” is right. I had the OCW-M700TBJ-1AJF, and it was Ti on Ti with Black IP.

Look at your own picture of that model, and you’ll see Titanium on the back of the case. The band also says “Base Titanium China” on the middle bar of the clasp.

i’m just wondering where these coating specs informations came from such IP, PVD, DLC (i own a 2832) or Carbide. I had never seen this specs mentioned on any watch user guide and specs that claims they are.
If this coating specs are really true, why do watch manufacturers wont include it on specs sheet.
Or can anyone tell me where to look for it?

    Hi,

I’m waiting for my OCW-M7000J-1AJF right now, from “The Bay”, and i would like to know one thing: does this watch have the hourly signal (I mean an annoying “beep” every hour ;-)), I’ve seen this on every Casio watch I had before, and it may be crazy but I love this…

    Thanks in advance, regards.

    Vince.

  12. Jason said

According the the manual, I do not think this watch has the hourly time signal feature.

    Andrew,

I’m not sure I understand your question. If you are asking for the User’s Manual, you can download it here:

    Hi there,

a few months ago I purchased the OCW-M700 from Europe. I live in the States. After we switched the time a few weeks ago my watch does not want to adjust anymore to the correct time. I tried everything and at this point am so frustrated with the thing that I really need some help. What I noticed is that the Stopwatch second hand (the big second hand) no longer stays in the 12 o’clock position like it used to. I am wondering if the watch needs to calibrated somehow because it just sees off a bit. Any comments or any advise would help me a lot at this point. Thanks in advance

    • Joel said

I can’t belive no one has responded to this yet. Just stop the stopwatch and use the reset button to put it back to the 12:00 position. Once that is done the watch will be back in timekeeping mode and will synch with the atomic clock, which it cannot do while the stopwatch is running. Good luck.

I know that this is an old thread, but I have had this problem before with my OCW-M700. The first one I had did this same thing and I replaced it with another only to have it happen again after a couple of years. What he is describing is when you hold down “A” until it beeps twice it is supposed to go into Time Setting Mode. In this mode, the second hand is supposed to point straight up to 0 or 60. Instead, it points to about 11 o’clock or 54. This has the result of making your watch about 5-6 minutes slow after receiving a calibration. The fix is to adjust the home position of the second hand. I contacted Casio Support and this was their response.

Based on the issues you are describing I would recommend that you adjust the hand home position. This can be located on page 4 of the manual under Adjusting the Home Positions on the right side of the page.

Here is a link to the manual. http://support.casio.com/en/manual/009/qw4749.pdf.

Follow the direction in the manual. You will want to make sure that all the hands point to 12:00 and that the date is set to 1.

Once you have adjusted the hand home position, try to receive the calibration signal and see if that fixed the issue

  19. The all-black (titanium/carbide) Casio Oceanus OCW-M700 is -in both appearance&performance – The Best Watch – absolutely and ultimately – I ever owned, including the most expensive and posh swiss models (in steel, gold and even platinum)available worldwide. From my point of view, it embodies all the features a wrist timepiece is supposed – within reason – to have.

Is there any difference between OCW-M700TBA-1AV and OCW-M700TBJ-1AJF, or are they just their American and Japanese editions respectively?

    Cheers.

    • Joel said

The American version does not have the word Casio on the watch face. Watch for the 1AV vs. the 1AJF because that’s what makes the watch have different color faces or color bands. Feature wise, they’re the same but, and this is just an example, the white hands on the white face, I found hard to see and much prefer the darker color face. I also prefer the OCW-M800 over the 700 models, but that is just personal preference.

I’ve had the Titanium 700 series for a couple of years, it’s really the greatest, and I purchased it from Sky Mall. I noticed recently that in the add for the 700 series watch in Sky Mall, it says that the watch will automatically change time zones as you travel every night upon calibration and show the correct local time. I don’t recall the manual mentioning this feature. Will this watch change time as you travel? That would really be nice. does anyone know???

    Hello,
I have a module 4749 since they first came out on the market, very happy with it. I noticed recently that the weekday indicator is out of sync and it points between two days (it should point the next day actually) and that in chrono mode the indicators remain behind (the decimal starts at 56 and the minute indicator has aproxamately 2 minutes delay). I heard that an override method exists to put the indicators back to their places but i fail to find the instructions to achieve this. Could someone help me? Thank you guys
