Kobold Pulsometer Chronograph

Posted by wristwatch on September 28, 2007

The Pulsometer Chronograph is the ideal watch for professionals in the medical field. The watch was created to serve as a professional-grade medical instrument that can be used as back-up device for measuring pulse rates. The design of the Pulsometer Chronograph is consistent with this purpose - to grant the wearer easier access to the chronograph start and stop button, which must be used to obtain an accurate pulse rate, the push buttons and winding crown are placed at the left side of the case. This allows users who are right-handed and therefore wear their watch on the left wrist a more comfortable method to use the watch while taking a person’s pulse.

Kobold Large Soarway Diver Ref. KD 832121 -C

Posted by wristwatch on August 27, 2007

The timepiece worn by legendary deep sea diver and conservationist Philippe Cousteau is none other than a Kobold watch designed with his help. The Large Soarway Diver is not only the latest Kobold watch designed with the input of a world-class adventurer, it is also the biggest timepiece in the Kobold collection.

Its large dial features a minimalist design in keeping with the style of professional diver’s watches from the 1960ies. The bold hour and minute hands harmonize perfectly with the luminous hour markers, which contrast with the non-reflective Deep Black dial color. A uni-directional rotating bezel can be used to indicate the amount of time left for a specific diving excursion. The case also features a screw-locked crown and screw-down caseback. Moreover, the bars to which the wristband is attached are screw-locked on either side, thereby preventing an accidental loss of the watch.

Waterproof to a depth of 500 meters (1,650 ft.), shock-resistant and antimagnetic, the Large Soarway Diver impresses with multiple shock-resistance systems and a secondary, internal case made from soft-iron to minimize the effects of magnetic interference on the watch movement.

The upbringing of the storied adventurer Jacques Yves Cousteau’s grandson more closely resembles that of a marine mammal than of a land-roving human being. Always close to a body of water to explore, Philippe learned to dive at the age of eight. His father, Philippe Sr., died in a plane accident so the young Philippe picked up a few tricks from mentors like his grandfather and his late father’s chief of expeditions, who taught him how to dive.

Philippe’s grandfather instilled in him a strong sense of social justice and taught him that the health of society contributes to a healthy environment. “I remember having dinner in New York City with my grandfather,” recalls Philippe, “he took off his watch and told me that if we don’t take care of our environment, objects like his watch would be so costly one day, that few people can afford them.” Philippe pauses before reflecting on the current state of our planet’s environment: “Our planet can’t sustain the level of production to which we have grown accustomed.”

Today, Philippe and his sister, Alexandra, are the co-founders of Earth Echo International, a conservationist organization that seeks to promote a healthier environment. The Kobold Watch Company, under its own “Embrace Earth” program, which aims to raise awareness about global warming, seeks to support the ongoing conversation work performed by Philippe and Alexandra. As a result, the proceeds of the Large Soarway Diver, which is limited to only 150 individually numbered pieces, benefit Earth Echo International.

The Large Soarway Diver is shipped with two straps. The watch is shipped on a waterproof nylon band that is preferred by professional divers all over the world. Recognizing that many collectors of dive watches never actually use their timepieces under or even in water, Kobold offers the Large Soarway Diver on an additional strap handmade in Germany from calfskin. The watch arrives in a wooden collector’s box with space for two other watches.

Kobold Soarway Diver SEAL Tactical Ref. KD 832129

Posted by wristwatch on August 26, 2007

Limited to only ten pieces per year, the SEAL Tactical is among the most coveted Kobold watches in production.  Designed in collaboration with professional deep-sea divers, the SEAL is waterproof to depths of 1,000 meters (3,300 feet).  Thanks to a case made from lightweight aerospace-grade titanium, the SEAL Tactical weighs only 111 grams on a canvas military strap, 30% less than the model crafted from stainless steel. In addition, the SEAL Tactical has a black PVD-coated case, distinguishing it from other watches not only by its sheer size but also by its ominous appearance.

Conceived with high-stress military and civilian underwater activity in mind, the SEAL is solid and reliable. Its bold dimensions and intriguingly simple lines give it a distinct presence on the wearer’s wrist.

The Soarway Diver SEAL is a minimalist’s watch, and it does not display the date; it is specifically geared towards professional divers.  It features a design specifically geared towards professional divers, including a helium escape valve, allowing users to engage in saturation diving.  In addition, every SEAL is equipped with a thick secondary interior case, made from soft iron, which shields the automatic-winding movement against the effects of magnetism.  Designed to be the most rugged of all Kobold watches, the SEAL features two shock-resistance systems.  The first system, INCABLOC, is integrated into the movement and comes standard in all Kobold watches.  The second system, SAS, was designed for the SEAL and has been patented.  Unlike INCABLOC, which is part of the movement, SAS is integrated into the case and acts as a back-up system that protects the movement against extremely strong shocks.

Kobold’s Soarway Diver SEAL Titanium comes on a solid titanium bracelet with screw-locked links.  The Soarway bracelet has been specially modified to accommodate 22mm lugs and the robust weight of the case.  The bracelet is attached by a patented screw-locked system, preventing the watch from being torn off the wearer’s wrist. The watch arrives in a hand-crafted wood collector’s box and on a black PVD-coated titanium bracelet with folding clasp and diver’s extension.

Kobold Polar Surveyour Ref. KD 915151

Posted by wristwatch on August 26, 2007

The Polar Surveyor is the world’s first wristwatch to combine the functions of local time, a GMT/UTC-based second time zone, an AM/PM indicator for local time, date and a chronograph. It commanded the respect of the world’s great polar explorers long before it was ever for sale to the public and is worn by dozens of expedition teams all across the world. The Polar Surveyor is not only a peerless wrist instrument for explorers, but also the most functional Kobold watch ever built.

The Polar Surveyor is powered by a specially developed caliber, called K.751. It is Kobold’s first completely reworked version of the legendary ETA 7750, known to be one of the world’s most reliable and accurate chronograph movements. In addition to the regular timing and chronograph functions, the Polar Surveyor’s caliber displays a second time zone (24 hours), as well as the day’s cycle (AM/PM) for local time. These functions are critical to polar explorers, who often face complete whiteouts or, in winter months, darkness for an entire season, both of which cause disorientation.

Kobold’s Polar Surveyor Chronograph is based on Kobold’s much-heralded Soarway case, crafted from a solid block of stainless steel. Each Polar Surveyor comes on a corresponding Soarway bracelet with a patented screw-locked system. The watch arrives in a wooden Kobold collector’s box with room for two extra timepieces.
